| this car was brought to me with a used transmission automatic to be installed, the guy also brought the latest '' conductor plate electrical plate'' part no 140-270 -08-61 after installation it shifts fine for a while then does not want to shift to 4 th gear, if i clear the code 147 or 51 , same code but one is intermittent -- minus 96 --- 147-96= 51
it can be driven for a while , shifts smooth, then same problem , same code 147 most of the time, i clear the code and he is ok for a couple of days ... no metal particules in transmission,i know body valve was upgraded several times by benz factory, and we got the latest conductor plate, does it need coding , can the launch do that, or should we change to the latest body valve...
i am not a transmission expert need advise to solve this problem..
thanks in advance |

| Hello Jidosha,
Code 147 is for detection of trans slipping, if it has a new conductor plate trans probably needs to be rebuilt. Look at adaptation numbers..... 3/4 shift at limit? Dave
You dont say if module was replaced, if so it would need to be coded. Possible problem as well. |

| thanks kawika, the transmission module has not been changed, code is also for implausable gear, worn teflon bushing according to benz wis info system...
funny thing now, is that if i clear dtc with launch scanner, then customer goes on highway for 3 hours, slows down, stops , accelerate, cruise at 120 km/ hour everything is fine, if he turns off engine for more than one hour, then it goes into limp mode stuck in second gear, i clear dtc 147 again and it is back to normal for a while , as long as he is driving on highway, or just coincidence, as i said i will check data stream, adaptation, etc , i just ordered from www.auto-video.com the dvd on transmission benz 722.6 , i need some training, and nobody in my area wants to fix benz automatic transmissions, usually i send customer to far away dealer, i need some free time to study automatic transmissions, usually i can fix easy stuff with code , data base in automotive forums... but i am not a specialist in automatic transmissions, benz has got so many proplems with autobox , i need to educate myself on these problems...
thanks again to kawika for helping us on many forums...

| I would look at shift adaptations before chasing this one since its an unknown used trans. If shift adaptations are at or around 180, the trans. needs rebuilding!

| I have also seen this code #147 when the gear position sensor, in the console, is defective. The transmission control unit doesn't see an input from it intermittently. This may explain the pattern failure described. I don't believe the sensor costs more than $90 US. You may be able to see the lack of data with your launch |
